This antibody recognizes a functional epitope of the Fas molecule.

Target Information

FAS (Fas, CD95, APO-1) is a 46 kDa transmembrane glycoprotein functioning as a cell death receptor of the TNFR superfamily. It also exists in a soluble 26 kDa form. Upon stimulation, FAS triggers aggregation of FADD, formation of the death-inducing signaling complex (DISC), and activation of caspases, leading to apoptosis. FAS can activate NF-kappaB, MAPK3/ERK1, and MAPK8/JNK, participating in proliferation signaling in fibroblasts and T cells. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants exist, with some isoforms lacking the transmembrane domain and acting as negative regulators of apoptosis. The Fas/Fas ligand system is implicated in diseases such as AIDS, hepatitis, and cancer, and plays a role in antiviral immune responses.
