Target Information
GAPDH (Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase) is a catalytic enzyme involved in glycolysis, existing as a tetramer of 37-kDa subunits. It catalyzes the reversible reduction of 1,3-bisphosphoglycerate to glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate in the presence of NADPH.
Beyond glycolysis, GAPDH participates in DNA replication, repair, RNA export, membrane fusion, and microtubule bundling. It is implicated in apoptosis, neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Huntington’s, and interacts with proteins like amyloid precursor protein and Huntingtin.
Due to its ubiquitous expression, GAPDH serves as a reliable protein loading control in Western blot analysis.
