Target Information

This gene belongs to the subfamily of ubiquitously expressed heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins (hnRNPs). The hnRNPs are nucleic acid-binding proteins that complex with heterogeneous nuclear RNA (hnRNA). These proteins are associated with pre-mRNAs in the nucleus and influence pre-mRNA processing, mRNA metabolism, and transport.
While all hnRNPs are nuclear, some shuttle between the nucleus and cytoplasm. The hnRNP D protein contains two quasi-RRM domains that bind RNA, localizing to both nucleus and cytoplasm, and plays a role in mRNA stability regulation. Alternative splicing produces four transcript variants.
