Target Information
This gene belongs to the subfamily of ubiquitously expressed heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins (hnRNPs). The hnRNPs are nucleic acid binding proteins that complex with heterogeneous nuclear RNA (hnRNA). These proteins are associated with pre-mRNAs in the nucleus and influence pre-mRNA processing, mRNA metabolism, and transport. While all hnRNPs are present in the nucleus, some shuttle between the nucleus and cytoplasm. The encoded protein has two quasi-RRM domains that bind RNAs, localizes to both nucleus and cytoplasm, and is involved in mRNA stability regulation. Alternative splicing results in four transcript variants.
