Target Information
The c-Myc protein is a 62 kDa transcription factor encoded by the c-Myc gene on human chromosome 8q24. It plays a critical role in cellular proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, and cell cycle progression. c-Myc activation is common in various tumor cells and is essential for vasculogenesis and angiogenesis during tumor development.
Amplification of the c-Myc gene has been found in several human cancers including lung, breast, and colon carcinomas. Translocation of the c-myc locus to immunoglobulin loci is associated with Burkitt’s lymphoma and other B-cell lymphoproliferative disorders. Aberrant expression of c-myc occurs in tumors of diverse origins such as colorectal, gastric, hepatic, ovarian, and hematopoietic neoplasms.
Antibodies against c-myc epitopes recognize Myc-tagged fusion proteins at either amino or carboxy termini.
