Target Information
RPS6KB1 (p70S6K) is a serine/threonine kinase with two non-identical kinase catalytic domains that phosphorylates several residues of the S6 ribosomal protein. p70 S6 kinase is predominantly localized in the cytoplasm and plays essential roles in growth factor–regulated cell proliferation, cell motility pathways (such as metastasis), immune response, and tissue repair. It acts downstream of phosphoinositide (PI) 3-kinase, targeting the S6 ribosomal protein to promote protein synthesis and cell proliferation. Amplification and overexpression of p70 S6 kinase are observed in some breast cancer cell lines.
