Target Information
Ran is a small signaling GTPase involved in nucleocytoplasmic transport. It also plays roles in spindle aster formation and nuclear envelope reassembly during mitosis. Unlike Ras or Rho, Ran is not membrane-associated. The localization of RanGAP and RCC1 defines the local concentration of RanGTP vs. RanGDP. Mammalian RanGAP binds to the nuclear pore via SUMOylation at its C-terminus and interaction with nucleoporin Nup358.
