Target Information

Na⁺/H⁺ exchangers (NHE-1 to NHE-6) are integral membrane proteins expressed in most mammalian tissues, regulating intracellular pH and cell volume. These antiporters mediate secondary active extrusion of hydrogen ions (H⁺) in exchange for extracellular sodium ions (Na⁺).
Except for NHE-1, which is ubiquitously expressed, NHE-2 to NHE-6 show tissue- and cell type-specific expression and distinct inhibition profiles with amiloride analogs.
Human NHE-5 (solute carrier family 9, isoform 5; SLC9A5) is an 896 amino acid protein expressed in brain, testis, spleen, and skeletal muscle.
