Target Information
Ribosomes are organelles that catalyze protein synthesis and consist of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit. These subunits are composed of 4 RNA species and approximately 80 distinct proteins. The RPL14 gene encodes a ribosomal protein that is a component of the 60S subunit and belongs to the L14E family. It contains a basic region-leucine zipper (bZIP)-like domain and is located in the cytoplasm. The gene includes a highly polymorphic trinucleotide (GCT) repeat tract, resulting in variable alanine stretches in the protein. Multiple transcript variants exist, all encoding the same protein. As typical for ribosomal protein genes, processed pseudogenes are dispersed throughout the genome.
