Target Information
Tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase 4 (TIMP4) is encoded by the gene TIMP4 located on chromosome 3. It belongs to the TIMP family and inhibits matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), which degrade extracellular matrix components.
TIMP4 binds irreversibly to MMPs and inactivates them with zinc as a cofactor. The netrin domain of TIMP4 is involved in platelet recruitment and aggregation.
Other biological functions include response to cytokine and peptide hormone stimuli, involvement in the ovulation cycle, and CNS development.
