Target Information

Histones are basic nuclear proteins that, together with DNA, form the nucleosome structure in eukaryotes. Nucleosomes consist of approximately 146 bp of DNA wrapped around a histone octamer composed of pairs of the four core histones (H2A, H2B, H3, and H4).
Methylation of specific residues in histone tails is a key modification regulating epigenetic transitions in chromatin.

  • Methylation of H3 on lysine 4, 36, and 79 is linked with gene activation.
  • Methylation of H3 on lysines 9, 27 and H4 on lysine 20 is associated with heterochromatin and gene repression.
    Modified lysine residues can exist in mono-, di-, or tri-methylated states, while arginine residues can be mono- or di-methylated.
    Histone H3 Lys4 trimethylation (H3-K4me3) is a conserved mark of actively transcribed chromatin.
    This antibody specifically recognizes histone H3 citrullinated at Arg2, Arg8, and Arg17. The sequence is conserved among mammals and various other species including Drosophila, Arabidopsis, Chicken, and Xenopus.
