Mineralocorticoids, secreted by the adrenal cortex, regulate metabolic and electrolyte processes through interaction with the mineralocorticoid receptor (MR). The kidney is a primary target organ for mineralocorticoids and contains MR.
The corresponding gene for the mineralocorticoid receptor is NR3C2.
