This antibody recognizes an extracellular epitope of murine CD8α (32–34 kDa; alpha chain of the CD8 antigen).


Target Information

Cluster of differentiation 8 (CD8) is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein of the immunoglobulin receptor family. It plays a key role in T cell signal transduction, differentiation, and activation. CD8 is mainly expressed on T cells as a heterodimer of CD8α and CD8β, functioning as a co-receptor for MHC class I molecules. CD8α is also found as a homodimer on subsets of T cells, NK cells, monocytes, and dendritic cells. Binding of MHC-I/peptide complexes to CD8 triggers recruitment of Lck kinase, promoting lymphokine production and cytotoxic T lymphocyte activation. Activated CTLs are crucial for pathogen and tumor cell clearance. Differentiation of naive CD8+ T cells into CTLs is enhanced by IL-2, IL-12, and TGF-β1.
