Product Specific Information
The OKT8 monoclonal antibody reacts with the human CD8a molecule, a 32–34 kDa cell surface receptor expressed as either a CD8αβ heterodimer or CD8αα homodimer. CD8a is found on most thymocytes and subsets of mature T and NK cells. It binds to MHC class I and associates with protein tyrosine kinase p56lck, playing a key role in T-cell development and activation.
Preliminary testing indicates that OKT8, RPA-T8, and HIT8a clones do not compete for binding to human peripheral blood leukocytes, suggesting distinct epitopes.
Applications Reported: Flow cytometric analysis.
Applications Tested: Tested on normal human peripheral blood cells at ≤0.25 µg/test (100 µL final volume). Optimize titration for best assay performance.
Storage and Handling: Use in sterile environment.
Filtration: 0.2 µm post-manufacturing filtered.

Target Information
Cluster of differentiation 8 (CD8) is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein of the immunoglobulin receptor family involved in signal transduction, T cell differentiation, and activation. It functions as a co-receptor for MHC class I molecules, critical for cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) activation and pathogen/tumor clearance. CD8 is expressed on T cells, NK cells, monocytes, and dendritic cells, forming disulfide-linked dimers. Activation is enhanced by cytokines such as IL-2, IL-12, and TGF-β1.
