Target Information
Cytokine receptor signaling is negatively regulated by the SOCS (Suppressor of Cytokine Signaling) protein family, which includes SOCS-1 through SOCS-7 and CIS. SOCS proteins contain an N-terminal variable region, a central SH2 domain, and a C-terminal SOCS box. They function as part of a negative feedback loop controlling cytokine signal transduction via a STAT-induced transcriptional mechanism. SOCS gene transcription is rapidly induced by cytokines, and the resulting proteins inhibit signaling through various mechanisms.
