Target Information

Ephrin A5 is a cell surface GPI-bound ligand for Eph receptors, a family of receptor tyrosine kinases crucial for migration, repulsion, and adhesion during neuronal, vascular, and epithelial development.
It binds promiscuously to Eph receptors on adjacent cells, leading to contact-dependent bidirectional signaling.
Forward signaling occurs downstream of the receptor, while reverse signaling occurs downstream of the ephrin ligand.
This signaling event requires Fyn tyrosine kinase activity and regulates cell adhesion, cytoskeletal organization, and axon fasciculation.
Interactions with EPHA2 and EPHA3 receptors may influence lens transparency and cell-cell communication, including glucose-stimulated insulin secretion.
Ephrin A5 also interacts with EPHA7, modulating brain development through adhesion and repulsion mechanisms.
