Ephrin (EPH) 패밀리의 구성원으로, EPH 관련 수용체와 함께 가장 큰 수용체 단백질-티로신 키나제 하위군을 형성합니다. 이들은 주로 신경계 발달 및 적혈구 생성 과정에 관여합니다. 구조와 서열 유사성에 따라 ephrin-A (EFNA) 클래스는 glycosylphosphatidylinositol로 막에 고정되어 있으며, ephrin-B (EFNB) 클래스는 막관통 단백질로 구성됩니다. 본 유전자는 EFNA 클래스 ephrin을 암호화합니다.
