Target Information
SPPL2B is a member of the GXGD family of aspartic proteases. These transmembrane proteins have two conserved catalytic motifs localized within membrane-spanning regions. SPPL2B localizes to endosomes, lysosomes, and the plasma membrane. It cleaves the transmembrane domain of tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), releasing the intracellular domain that triggers cytokine expression involved in innate and adaptive immunity pathways.
