Target Information
CD146 (MCAM) is an integral membrane glycoprotein belonging to the immunoglobulin superfamily. It is expressed at cell-cell junctions in endothelial cells and various other normal and malignant cell types.
CD146 functions as a calcium-independent adhesion molecule and may act as a signal transducer by recruiting Fyn kinase, leading to tyrosine phosphorylation of intracellular proteins involved in actin cytoskeleton assembly.
It plays a key role in endothelial cell cohesion, vascular integrity, and may facilitate melanoma cell interaction with vascular components, enhancing tumor spread.
Additionally, CD146 is active in neural crest cells during embryonic development and acts as a surface receptor triggering phosphorylation of FYN and PTK2, with transient intracellular calcium increase.
