Target Information
ITGA3 (Integrin, Alpha-3), also known as CD49C, VLA3, or GAPB3, is encoded by the ITGA3 gene located on chromosome 17q21.33.
It is an integrin alpha subunit and a member of the family of cell surface adhesion molecules. ITGA3 forms half of the α3β1 integrin complex, which plays a key role in neural migration and corticogenesis alongside the β1 subunit.
A functional link between DAB1 phosphorylation and ITGA3 signaling regulates the detachment of migrating neurons from radial glial fibers. Expression of human ITGA3 enhances viral infectivity in Chinese hamster ovary cells.
ITGA3 contains 13 potential N-glycosylation sites, 2 potential cleavage sites, and 7 N-terminal repeating units characteristic of integrin alpha subunits. Recombinant ITGA3 is expressed as a 150-kDa protein, identical in size to the native protein as confirmed by western blot analysis.
