Product Specific Information
Store vial at -20°C prior to opening. Aliquot contents and freeze at -20°C or below for extended storage. Avoid cycles of freezing and thawing. Centrifuge product if not completely clear after standing at room temperature.
This product is stable for several weeks at 4°C as an undiluted liquid. Dilute only prior to immediate use.
Directed against human MUC4 protein. A BLAST analysis suggests cross-reactivity with MUC4 from human based on 100% sequence homology with the immunogen. Reactivity with MUC4 from other sources is not known.
Target Information
Nearly all mucosal surfaces are protected by mucin transmembrane glycoproteins, from bronchioles to corneas to reproductive tracts. Mucin 4 (MUC4) is membrane-bound and plays a key role in protection and lubrication.
MUC4 expression is aberrant in many carcinomas and sarcomas, including fibromyoxoid sarcoma and pancreatic adenocarcinoma. Immunohistochemical staining for MUC4 has been discussed as a potential biomarker for detection of these cancers.
MUC4 is also implicated in several diseases prevalent in Asian populations, such as Taiwanese infertility, endometriosis, and gallstone formation in Chinese men. Because MUC4 is essential for mucosal surface protection, its dysfunction is associated with metastatic cancer invasions.
