Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTP) family. PTPs regulate various cellular processes including growth, differentiation, mitotic cycle, and oncogenic transformation. This receptor-type PTP possesses extracellular, transmembrane, and intracellular catalytic domains. It is closely related to PTPRN/IA-2beta and is a major autoantigen associated with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus. Three alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct proteins have been reported.
