Target Information
The proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex with a highly ordered ring-shaped 20S core structure composed of 4 rings of 28 non-identical subunits (2 alpha rings and 2 beta rings). Proteasomes cleave peptides in an ATP/ubiquitin-dependent process in a non-lysosomal pathway.
The immunoproteasome processes class I MHC peptides. PSMB8 encodes a member of the proteasome B-type (T1B) family, a 20S core beta subunit located in the MHC class II region. Expression is induced by gamma interferon, replacing proteasome beta 5 subunit in the immunoproteasome. Two alternative transcripts produce the same mature subunit.
