Target Information
Peptide YY (PYY), also known as peptide tyrosine-tyrosine amide (3-36), is a gut hormone metabolite produced by dipeptidyl peptidase IV activity on PYY in the intestinal brush border and circulation. PYY (3-36) acts as a potent inhibitor of food intake in rats and humans by selectively binding to the Y2 receptor, inhibiting orexigenic NPY neurons in the arcuate nucleus, and disinhibiting anorexigenic POMC neurons. Its anorexigenic effects are additive with those of the co-secreted hormone GLP-1.
