Rubicon은 Beclin-1-PIK3C3 복합체의 일부로 자가포식(autophagy)을 조절하는 단백질입니다.
Beclin-1과 상호작용하는 단백질 Rubicon과 ATG14L은 자가포식의 서로 다른 단계에서 상반된 역할을 수행합니다. Rubicon의 발현 감소는 자가포식 증가를 유도하며, ATG14L의 발현 감소는 오토파고좀 형성 결함을 초래합니다.
또한 Rubicon은 NADPH oxidase 복합체의 양성 조절 인자로 작용하며, 미생물 감염이나 TLR2 활성화 시 CYBA 서브유닛과 상호작용하여 활성산소(ROS) 생성 및 염증성 사이토카인 분비를 유도합니다.
