Target Information
Flavin-containing monooxygenases (FMOs) are NADPH-dependent enzymes that catalyze the oxidation of various drugs and xenobiotics. In humans, the FMO2 enzyme is truncated and likely rapidly degraded, showing no catalytic activity. A functional allele has been reported in African Americans, though sequence evidence is lacking. The FMO2 gene is located in a cluster with FMO1, FMO3, and FMO4 on chromosome 1.
