Target Information
Kinesins are a superfamily of microtubule-associated motor proteins involved in various cellular processes including organelle transport and cell division. These proteins possess a conserved motor domain (~350 amino acids) responsible for microtubule binding and ATP hydrolysis.
Kinesin C2 (KIFC2) is a C-type kinesin with the motor domain located toward the carboxyl terminus, similar to the KAR3 family involved in cell division. KIFC2 is expressed in axons and dendrites of the central and peripheral nervous system and is thought to play a role in retrograde axonal transport.
