Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene acts as a cofactor for pancreatic lipase, facilitating efficient dietary lipid hydrolysis. It binds to the C-terminal, non-catalytic domain of lipase, stabilizing its active conformation and enhancing hydrophobic binding. This allows lipase to anchor to lipid micelles and counteracts the destabilizing effects of bile salts. Expression is limited to pancreatic acinar cells, regulated by tissue-specific elements. Three transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
