Target Information
This gene belongs to the S100 fused-type protein (SFTP) gene family, located in a cluster of SFTP genes on chromosome 1q21. Several members of this family are implicated in complex skin disorders. The gene is evolutionarily conserved and its expression appears hair-specific, localized within the distal inner root sheath of the hair follicle, suggesting a role in hair morphogenesis.
