Target Information
Glutamine synthase (GLUL) belongs to the glutamine synthetase family. In animals, ammonia incorporation occurs through the actions of glutamate dehydrogenase and glutamine synthase. Glutamate serves as a central molecule in nitrogen metabolism, acting as both donor and acceptor. It also regulates neurotransmitter glutamate metabolism.
Because of its multiple functions, GS activity and synthesis are tightly controlled, including regulation by adenylylation. Its activity is reduced in the cerebral cortex of Alzheimer’s disease brains, particularly near senile plaques, and under glucose deprivation conditions.
For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures. Not for resale without express authorization.
