Target Information
The platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) family consists of four members: PDGF-A, PDGF-B, PDGF-C, and PDGF-D. These form disulphide-bonded dimeric isoforms that are essential for growth, survival, and function in various connective tissue cells. Their signaling occurs via tyrosine kinase receptors PDGFR-α and PDGFR-β and is critical for organ development.
PDGF-D, similar to PDGF-C, is secreted as a disulphide-linked homodimer (PDGF-DD). It induces cellular transformation and promotes tumor growth by enhancing proliferation and neovascularization. PDGF-D is implicated in brain tumor development and may influence prostate cancer progression. Expression is found in fibroblastic adventitial cells, cultured endothelial cells, and various tumor cell lines (ovarian, renal, lung, astrocytoma, medulloblastoma) as well as human kidney tissue.
