CDC20은 세포분열 촉진 복합체(APC/C)의 유비퀴틴 리가아제 활성을 위해 필요하며, 복합체의 기질 특이성을 부여합니다. MAD2L1에 의해 조절되며, 중기에는 MAD2L1-CDC20-APC/C 삼중 복합체가 비활성 상태이고, 후기에는 CDC20-APC/C 이중 복합체가 활성화되어 기질을 분해합니다. 또한 CDC20-APC/C 복합체는 신경세포의 시냅스 소포 군집 형성과 분화에 관여하며, NEUROD2 분해를 통해 시냅스 전 분화를 유도합니다.
