Target Information
ZBED1 (also known as DREF) is the human homolog of the Drosophila DREF protein, a transcriptional regulatory factor essential for genes involved in DNA replication and cell proliferation.
RNA interference (RNAi) experiments targeting ZBED1 RNA inhibited S phase entry and reduced histone H1 mRNA in HeLa cells, indicating its role in human cell proliferation.
At least 22 ribosomal proteins have ZBED1 binding sites in their promoters, and anti-ZBED1 RNAi reduced RP gene expression.
Immunoprecipitation analyses show that ZBED1 self-associates in vivo via a carboxyl-terminal hATC domain, which is required for nuclear localization and DNA binding.
