Target Information
This gene product belongs to the nuclear receptor superfamily, whose members are transcription factors with a ligand-binding domain and a DNA-binding domain. It regulates the cytochrome P450 gene CYP3A4 by binding to its promoter as a heterodimer with the 9-cis retinoic acid receptor (RXR).
Activated by compounds such as dexamethasone and rifampicin, which induce CYP3A4 expression. Several alternatively spliced transcripts and isoforms have been described, some using non-AUG initiation codons.
