Target Information

In eukaryotic cells, the nuclear envelope consists of inner and outer membranes defining the border between the nucleus and cytoplasm. These membranes are joined by nuclear pore complexes, allowing molecular exchange. The inner membrane is lined by the nuclear lamina composed of lamins. Lamins attach to the inner nuclear membrane through Lamin Associated Polypeptides (LAPs). LAP1A, 1B, and 1C share sequence homology, while LAP2 is distinct. LAP1A/B bind lamins A, C, and B1; LAP2 binds lamin B1 and also interacts with chromosomes. Phosphorylation of LAP2 during mitosis inhibits these interactions, indicating its role in nuclear envelope reassembly.
