Target Information
ETFA participates in catalyzing the initial step of mitochondrial fatty acid beta-oxidation. It transfers electrons between primary flavoprotein dehydrogenases and the membrane-bound electron transfer flavoprotein ubiquinone oxidoreductase.
Defects in electron-transfer-flavoprotein are linked to type II glutaric aciduria, causing multiple acyl-CoA dehydrogenase deficiencies and abnormal acid excretion.
Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene.
