This OX81 monoclonal antibody reacts with rat interleukin (IL)-4, also known as BCDF, BCGF-1, and BSF-1.
IL-4 is secreted primarily by activated Th2 and natural killer T cells and promotes proliferation and differentiation of B cells.
In conjunction with CD40 signaling, IL-4 induces Ig isotype switching and upregulates MHC class II and CD23 expression.

Target Information

Interleukin-4 (IL-4) is a pleiotropic, immune-modulatory cytokine produced by activated T cells.
It binds to the IL-4 receptor, which also interacts with IL-13, explaining overlapping cytokine functions.
STAT6 mediates IL-4 signaling.
The IL-4 gene is located on chromosome 5q near IL13, IL5, IL3, and CSF2, forming a cytokine gene cluster.
IL-4δ2 is a known splice variant.
