Product Specific Information
This antibody specifically recognizes the Tricellulin/MARVELD-2 protein.
In Western blot, it detects a band at approximately 64 kDa.
Confirmed reactivity with:
- Human Caco-2 cells
- Dog MDCK cells
- Mouse IMCD-3 cells
- Mouse kidney lysates (WB)
- Mouse MTE7b cells (ICC)
Based on sequence homology, reactivity with rhesus monkey, chimpanzee, rat, bovine, and horse is also expected.
Target Information
Tight junctions form a crucial barrier for paracellular transport in epithelial cells. Tricellulin is the first protein identified that specifically localizes to tricellular tight junctions where three cells meet.
It has four membrane-spanning domains similar to claudins and is highly expressed in epithelial tissues such as the small intestine, kidney, and lung.
Functional studies using siRNA have shown that suppression of tricellulin compromises epithelial barrier integrity and tight junction formation.
Mutations in tricellulin that disrupt its interaction with the scaffolding protein ZO-1 highlight the importance of protein–protein interactions in maintaining tight junction function.
