Target Information
CD53 is a tetraspanin family transmembrane glycoprotein expressed in the lymphoid-myeloid lineage. It forms complexes with other leukocyte surface proteins such as CD2, CD19, CD21, MHC II, VLA-4, and other tetraspanins (CD37, CD81, CD82), modulating various signaling processes. CD53 contributes to tumor cell radioresistance and exhibits anti-apoptotic effects upon activation. In thymus, CD53 expression increases during T cell positive selection and is strongly induced in macrophages exposed to bacterial lipopolysaccharide, while neutrophil stimulation leads to down-regulation of CD53.
