Product Specific Information

This antibody recognizes the extracellular region of CD30 (Ki-1 antigen), a 105 kDa single-chain glycoprotein expressed on Hodgkin’s and Reed-Sternberg cells. It is also found in Burkitt’s lymphomas, virus-infected T and B lymphocytes, and on normal B and T lymphocytes after activation (particularly Th2-type cytokine-producing T cells and CD4+/CD8+ T lymphocytes co-expressing CD45RO and IL4 receptor).

Target Information

CD30 (Ki-1, TNF Receptor Superfamily Member 8) is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein belonging to the TNF receptor superfamily. It was first identified as a surface antigen of Hodgkin’s and Reed-Sternberg cells using monoclonal antibody Ki-1. Its ligand, CD30L (CD153), mediates cell proliferation, activation, differentiation, and apoptosis through CD30 binding.

CD30 plays a critical role in Hodgkin’s disease and other CD30+ lymphomas and acts as a costimulatory molecule in thymic negative selection. It is expressed in Hodgkin’s lymphoma, Reed-Sternberg cells, and most anaplastic large cell lymphomas (ALCL), as well as in some non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas, virus-infected T/B cells, and activated normal lymphocytes.

The soluble form (sCD30) serves as a marker of Th2 immune response. CD30 interacts with TRAF2 and TRAF5, activating NF-kappaB signaling and regulating apoptosis. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been reported.
