Product Specific Information

This antibody reacts with soluble beta-2 microglobulin (Beta2M), a 12 kDa Ig-like glycoprotein expressed on lymphocytes, thymocytes, monocytes, granulocytes, platelets, endothelial cells, and epithelial cells. It is absent on erythrocytes.
Western blot can be performed under both reducing and non-reducing conditions, with non-reducing conditions preferred.

Target Information

Beta-2-microglobulin (B2M) is a 12–14 kDa protein that forms part of the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I. It is associated with HLA Class I antigens on various cell types including lymphocytes, thymocytes, monocytes, granulocytes, platelets, endothelial, and epithelial cells, but absent on erythrocytes.
It is also found freely in plasma. The amino acid sequence of Beta-2-microglobulin is homologous to the constant regions of immunoglobulin heavy and light chains, forming a beta-pleated sheet structure.
The protein is expressed ubiquitously in the cytoplasm and plays roles in antigen processing, presentation, and TCR signaling in naive CD8+ cells.
Encoded by the B2M gene on chromosome 15, mutations may cause hypercatabolic hypoproteinemia.
Beta-2-microglobulin levels can serve as a renal function marker in kidney transplant recipients and as a prognostic marker for HIV infection.
