Product Specific Information
The OKT3 monoclonal antibody recognizes an epitope on the epsilon-subunit within the human CD3 complex. It has potent immunosuppressive properties in vivo and has been effective in treating renal, heart, and liver allograft rejection.
CD3 subunits (gamma, delta, epsilon) are essential for proper assembly, trafficking, and surface expression of the TCR complex. CD3 is expressed by thymocytes in a developmentally regulated manner and by all mature T cells. Crosslinking of TCR initiates intracellular signaling leading to cellular activation and proliferation.

Target Information
The CD3 complex is crucial for transducing antigen-recognition signals into the cytoplasm of T cells and regulating TCR surface expression. It includes CD3 gamma, delta, epsilon, and zeta subunits, which are immunoglobulin superfamily members encoded on human chromosome 11.
CD3 subunits associate with signal transduction molecules via a double tyrosine-based motif. CD3 plays roles in TCR-induced growth arrest, survival, and proliferation. CD3 antigen is expressed on 68–82% of normal peripheral blood lymphocytes, 65–85% of thymocytes, and Purkinje cells in the cerebellum, but not on B or NK cells.
Defects in CD3 genes are associated with CD3 immunodeficiency.
