Product Specific Information
Antibody 36-7401 detects MIF from human, mouse, and rat samples.
It has been validated for use in Western blot, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, and immunoprecipitation.
In Western blot, this antibody detects a ~12 kDa protein representing MIF.
Immunofluorescent staining in U2OS cells and immunohistochemical staining of rat epididymis tissue show MIF localization in both nucleus and cytosol.
Target Information
MIF (macrophage migration inhibitory factor) is a cytokine originally identified as a T cell-derived factor that inhibits macrophage migration.
It was later recognized as a pituitary hormone that counteracts glucocorticoid effects within the immune system.
MIF is released from macrophages and T cells in response to physiological glucocorticoid levels and counter-regulates the immunosuppressive effects of steroids on immune cell activation and cytokine production.
It plays a critical role in inflammation control and immune regulation.
