Target Information

Beta-catenin, an adherens junction (AJ) protein, is a key component of cell-cell adhesion structures. It interacts with the cytoplasmic domain of E-cadherin, linking it to alpha-catenin and the cortical actin cytoskeleton. Beta-catenin also associates with complexes containing adenomatous polyposis coli protein and microtubules, participating in signaling pathways such as Wnt/Wingless.

Its regulation of morphogenesis and cell proliferation is crucial in epithelial maintenance and tumorigenesis. Aberrant expression has been implicated in pilomatrixoma, medulloblastoma, colorectal, ovarian, and other solid tumors. In the nucleus, beta-catenin co-activates Lef/Tcf transcription factors, promoting transcription of genes like cyclin D and c-myc.
