Target Information
Secretory carrier membrane proteins (SCAMPs) are components of post-Golgi membranes involved in membrane trafficking.
In fibroblasts, SCAMPs are concentrated in compartments related to receptor recycling and endocytosis.
In neurons, SCAMPs associate with synaptic vesicles, secretion granules, and transporter vesicles.
SCAMPs have four transmembrane regions and a cytoplasmic tail.
Among five known SCAMPs, SCAMPs 1–3 contain NPF repeats interacting with EH domain proteins.
SCAMPs 4 and 5 lack these repeats; SCAMP 5 is only detectable in the brain and expressed late in development, coinciding with mature synapse formation.
