GPR56는 G 단백질 연결 수용체(GPCR) 패밀리에 속하는 단백질로, 7개의 막관통 도메인과 N-말단의 점액질 유사 도메인을 포함합니다. 이 유전자는 뇌 피질의 패턴 형성 조절에 관여하며, 세포외 공간에서 transglutaminase 2와 특이적으로 결합합니다. GPR56 발현은 흑색종 세포주에서 감소하며, 과발현 시 종양 성장과 전이를 억제할 수 있습니다. 해당 유전자 돌연변이는 양측 전두두정 다소회증(bilateral frontoparietal polymicrogyria)을 유발할 수 있습니다. 다양한 아이소폼을 암호화하는 여러 전사 변이체가 보고되었습니다.
