Product Specific Information

The eBioSN4 monoclonal antibody reacts with human CD9, a 24 kDa member of the tetraspanin family with four hydrophobic transmembrane domains. CD9 is expressed in platelets, eosinophils, basophils, pre-B cells, activated T cells, and neural cell lines. It is associated with malignant phenotypes, being expressed on most non-T cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia cells and on many chronic lymphocytic and acute myeloblastic leukemia cells.

In platelets, CD9 is localized in alpha-granules and associates with integrin αIIb/βIII, playing a role in platelet aggregation. CD9 also induces aggregation of pre-B cell lines and promotes adhesion and migration of pre-B and Schwann cells. It provides a co-stimulatory signal for T cells independently of CD28. The eBioSN4 antibody partially cross-blocks binding of another anti-human CD9 monoclonal antibody, MM2/57.

Applications Reported: Flow cytometric analysis
Applications Tested: Pre-titrated and tested by flow cytometry using normal human platelets. Recommended use: 5 µL (0.25 µg) per test (final volume 100 µL).

Target Information

CD9 antigen is a glycoprotein expressed on developing B lymphocytes, platelets, monocytes, eosinophils, basophils, stimulated T lymphocytes, neurons, and glial cells. It belongs to the tetraspanin family with four transmembrane domains. CD9 regulates cell activation and aggregation, possibly through association with integrin CD41/CD61 (GPIIb/GPIIIa). It is involved in cell motility, osteoclastogenesis, neurite outgrowth, myotube formation, sperm-egg fusion, and plays roles in cell attachment, proliferation, and immune cell signaling. CD9 expression is critical in suppressing cancer cell motility and metastasis, acting as a metastasis suppressor in solid tumors.
