Ca2+/calmodulin-dependent protein kinases (CaM kinases)는 serine/threonine kinase의 구조적으로 관련된 하위 그룹으로 CaMKI, CaMKII, CaMKIV를 포함합니다.
CaMKII는 Ca2+와 calmodulin(CaM)에 의해 활성화되는 보편적으로 발현되는 serine/threonine protein kinase이며, 세포 주기 및 전사 조절에 관여합니다.
CaMKII는 alpha, beta, gamma, delta 네 가지 isozyme으로 존재하며, 조직에 따라 함께 발현되거나 개별적으로 발현될 수 있습니다.
CaMKII alpha는 Ca2+/CaM 복합체가 자가억제 도메인에 결합할 때 Thr286에서 자가 인산화되며, 이는 Ca2+/CaM trapping으로 알려져 있으며 시냅스 정보 인코딩에 관여한다고 알려져 있습니다.
