This antibody is directed against human Smad3 protein.
BLAST analysis suggests cross-reactivity with Smad3 from human, mouse, and rat based on 100% sequence homology.
No reactivity detected with other Smad proteins (Smad1, Smad2, Smad4, Smad7) in over-expressed cell lysates (Personal Communication, Kathleen Flanders, CCR-NCI, Bethesda, MD).

Target Information

SMAD3 is a member of the SMAD family, homologous to the Drosophila gene mothers against decapentaplegic (Mad) and the C. elegans gene Sma.
SMAD proteins act as signal transducers and transcriptional modulators mediating multiple signaling pathways.
SMAD3 functions as a transcriptional modulator activated by transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β) and plays a role in carcinogenesis regulation.
