Target Information
RPS6KB1 (p70S6K) is a serine/threonine kinase with two non-identical catalytic domains that phosphorylate several residues of the S6 ribosomal protein. It is predominantly localized in the cytoplasm and plays a crucial role in growth factor-regulated cell proliferation, cell motility, immune response, and tissue repair. Acting downstream of phosphoinositide (PI) 3-kinase, its main physiological target is the S6 ribosomal protein, which promotes protein synthesis and cell proliferation. Amplification and overexpression of p70 S6 kinase are observed in certain breast cancer cell lines.
